I figured I already had the new part so I swapped out everything but the actual long wire going from the tailgate under the truck to the cab (I swapped the actuator and wiring harness inside the cab for the new ones) hoping that this would help fix it however it still doesn’t lock or unlock with the key fob.Īny ideas what could be the issue here? The fob still works for the regular doors just not the tailgate. I go and take apart the tailgate cover and go to install it and realize it already has it installed (a little annoyed the tech didn’t bother to check even though I asked and he supposedly did) So I’m guessing the dealer I bought it from (in another state than where I am now) must have installed it as a dealer add on and I’m not crazy and misremembering my truck having that functionality at one point. He said there’s an aftermarket kit you can buy to do that so I went on Amazon and bought the pop & lock kit with the Tacoma specific wiring harness and stuff. I could have sworn it did but was like ok whatever and trusted the guy. I recently had it at the dealership for service and asked them to check why it’s not locking and unlocking with the fob and the tech just looked at me and said Tacoma tailgates don’t have that function. I can still physically turn the key though to lock and unlock it. I’ve got a 2020 TRD OR DCSB and the locking tailgate is no longer working with my key fob.
